Making art like seeing, is based on choosing which elements to focus on. We have created a piece that extracts moving people from their surroundings and brings them onto a blank painting canvas. The result resembles graphical brush strokes seen in paintings a few decades ago.
The installation space is situated by a window overlooking the street. It contains 2 canvases on opposite walls of the indoor space and two cameras pointing outdoors to both sides of the adjacent street.
In our piece the external real-world and the simplified fictional world unravel simultaneously - combining yet distinguishing them from one another. In an exhibition space the audience settles between these two worlds.
The work is constantly evolving and captivating, but at the same time quiet, calm and simple. The piece works nicely with either a street view or an indoor view. The most important thing is the human stream as well as a window or an opening in a wall through which the painting is 'reflected' on the canvas.
The problem was to find a way to take live video of people walking by the gallery space outdoors and project them inside the gallery without the background.
